Every CBSE Class 12th student who has taken up biology as a subject does think about college a lot. Namely, the medical colleges and how to get to them. Well, before that students need to know the top colleges which they can get into after CBSE class 12th Biology, science stream.
The one myth that is pretty prevalent among the biology students is that there is only medical field scope for them, that being: becoming doctors. However, the truth is far from it. Biology students, for that matter, have a lot of scope in other fields such as Biotechnology, etc. A CBSE Class 12th student should make it a point to look into all the potential career options and look for the best suitable institution for the same.
India is home to a lot of world-class medical colleges; these colleges offer a variety of courses in medical sciences. The colleges provide both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Medical students generally go for degrees of MBBS, MS, BDS, MD, MDS etc.
Most of the top colleges in India were established in the 50s and 60s with private colleges emerging about around the 80s. The old colleges in India are mostly run by Central and State governments. The quality and workings of these colleges are looked after by the Medical Council of India which is a governing body consisting of doctors and medical professionals. The body as of now recognizes around 273 medical colleges which can educate about 32,000 students in total.
CBSE students who have cleared their class 12th are entitled to apply in any of the medical colleges in India. Candidates are admitted based on their performance on various entrance test on both national and state level. These tests are conducted by various bodies and most prominent of them all is the NEET, which is the gateway to many prominent medical institutes in India. Selected candidates can choose from a variety of undergraduate courses and even go for further studies in postgraduate and PhD subsequently.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework which is a part of Human Resource Ministry publishes a ranking list every year which list out the top institutions in eight categories, Overall, University, Engineering, College, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture, Medical, they did publish a report this year too and the top ten medical colleges from the same are given below:

As we can observe from the list above, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi has topped the list with 87.52 % and is followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh which has score 77.88 %. There are a lot of colleges from both North India and South India and these colleges are incredibly hard to get into.
However, Biology does not mean only Medical sciences. Many of the students also go for other courses such as Biotechnology and so one. Also, there is a lot of private and semi-private institution which provide many students with the know-how of medical sciences. Medical Science is a field which requires a lot of commitment from the students’ side and they should give their best.
