5 tips for understanding & committing to memory important aspects...

Biology is one of the most important subjects for a CBSE Class 12th student. As it contributes and helps greatly in the preparation of competitive examinations like NEET and AIIMS. It is very crucial for students aiming for the medical field to score well in their board examinations as it is a stepping stone towards an amazing career in fields related to medicine. Given below are 5 tips for understanding & committing to memory important aspects of Biology for CBSE 12th exams:
  1. Identify the important parts
Students need to realize and understand that topics like Reproduction, Biology in Human Welfare and Ecology are the most important topics as they all combined carry 42 marks. On top of that, the topics are incredibly simple and easy to grasp. These units cover a vast number of topics with varying difficulty and you would need to learn a lot. Hence, these units should be covered first. Do not be fooled by the simplicity of these topics as they tend to be overlooked by students who forget them. So, to commit them to your memory, visit them from time to time so that they stay fresh in your mind.
  1. Biology is not at all about learning
Students often express their distaste of Biology by stating that there is so much to mug up and learn. Well, that is completely untrue as Biology is a subject which requires a commitment to understanding rather than learning. Students need to understand topics like Genetics and Biotechnology and not only learn and mug them up. Genetics, specifically demands a lot of understanding from the students. Understanding all the topics is crucial for excelling in Biology.
  1. Keep a notebook handy!
Prepare a separate notebook which contains all the important topics, diagrams and everything which you would consider important. This would help you in revision and also helps during the practice of various topics. It will help the student in remembering the important terms and help in the last-minute preparation strategy. Being a very theory-heavy subject, it’s pretty common that students find themselves lost in all the important topics and tend to forgetful of them. To tackle that, it will be really useful if the student draws diagrams between notes which will help him to maintain his interest in the subject.
  1. Commit to Biology, Chapter-wise
Important chapters like Genetics and Biotechnology are easy but require a student’s understanding. They also go together hence; they should be prepared together. There are also chapters like reproduction, ecology and human welfare which carry considerable marks (14 marks each) because they are broad and contain a lot of detailed information. Because of all these reasons, the topics should be prepared first.
  1. Do Not Cram Biology!
Cramming Biology doesn’t help anybody, rather it makes the students miss out on important details. However, there is a healthier alternative to cramming. That being, preparation consistently at least 2 to 3 weeks before exams. Consider attending the final classes as they can be incredibly helpful in doubt clarification and even enhance the knowledge on certain important topics. Comparing notes and discussing topics among friends can be helpful.
