How to avoid peer pressure and stay calm while preparing...

Boards are coming closer as every month passes by and students are growing more and more concerned regarding their performance in the CBSE board examinations. While there are a lot of pitfalls which consume the student’s dedication. None of it as damaging as the dreaded peer pressure. It can destroy friendships and has even driven students towards suicide. Below are some of the steps a student can avoid peer pressure and stay calm while preparing for CBSE board exams:
  1. Escape the Mob Mentality
What students mostly do is that they just follow what their friends or peers are doing, failing to understand that everyone is different and would have different methods of learning and retaining the course. Consider creating your methods and way of learning such as time tables, setting personal goals. They need to identify their strength and use them for their advantage. Escaping the mob is especially difficult in modern times due to the advent of social media. Students tend to ask each other a lot about their progress. The phrase “How much have you done?” is especially prevalent during the time of boards. Such a message triggers a kind of a rat race among the students which does not reap any kind of substantial result for anybody. Students tend to develop a complex and lose faith in themselves as they go on to overestimate other students’ preparation. Instead, one should focus on their own goals and set a realistic standard for themselves.
  1. Use your phone as a tool
During their preparation for the CBSE board examinations students tend to use their phones during breaks. This isn’t to say that they should stop using their phones altogether. Rather, they should consider minimizing social media usage and refrain talking about their progress with their friends. Prolonged phone usage can trigger Screen Dependency Disorder and result in the student wasting their precious time. The common misconception that people have that phones can only harm students. Rather, the phones can be used as a great tool for students to prepare realistic time tables and set realistic goals for themselves. It helps students to escape the trap of peer pressure and focus on their path. Phones can also be used to track break times and also reminders can be set for keeping students on track of the goals they have set for themselves.
  1. Do not check upon your friends
Distance yourself from the habit of constantly asking your friends about their preparation. This makes it harder for a student to focus on their own goals. If a friend is ahead of you, you’ll feel discouraged about your preparation and may even derail from your preparation. This gives rise to the dreaded peer pressure. Set personalized goals and do not compare it with your friend’s goals as everybody is different and will have different levels of preparation. Identify your individuality and work upon it. If your friends check upon you, just politely refuse or explain to them why checking on progress won’t help anybody.
